Marion Deatrice (Duncan) Elliott

Marion Deatrice (Duncan) Elliott, 78, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on September 5, 2018 to join the Lord and her loved ones in heaven. She was born March 9, 1940 in McGehee, Arkansas to the late Simon Duncan and Elverus Crosby Duncan.

She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and new Great-Grandmother to her family. Marion was a longtime member of Christ Temple Cathedral Church of Christ Holiness USA where she served as a Deaconess, Pastor Aide, Sunday School teacher and the United Christian Women Missionary Society. In the community, she volunteered with the Literacy Council, Foster Grandparents Program and Association of Community Organizations for Reform (ACOR). At the grassroots level, Marion supported voter registration and fair housing programs.

Marion graduated from Coleman High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Immediately upon graduation, she left for Chicago, IL and continued her education at Cortez W. Peters Business College of Chicago earning a Secretarial Sciences Diploma. Marion entered the workforce at the height of the Civil Rights Movement and integrated several office environments such as General Electric, US Post Office, and federal government agencies. In the State of Arkansas, she worked for the government agencies of the Department of Corrections and Unemployment Compensation Office. Later in life, Marion would complete her Bachelor of Science of Business Administration Degree at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.

Marion was preceded in death by 4 siblings Alexander V. McDonald, Simon Hugh Duncan, Eddie Paul Duncan and Emma Lydia (Duncan) Burch. She leaves to cherish her memory, two loving children from an early marriage, Voncile Elliott Gilbreath (Larry) of Chesapeake, Virginia and Johnny B. Elliott, III of Temple, Texas; six grandchildren Justin, Ryan, Duncan, Joshua, Raquel, Nicoli and one great-grandson, Perry; her brother Mannie Alford (Al) Duncan (Mamie); sisters-in-law Clara Adele Duncan and Opal Duncan; brother-in-law Aaron Burch and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation: 10:00- 11:00am and Funeral starting at 11:00 a.m., Friday, at Christ Temple Cathedral Church of Christ Holiness, 1923 S. Arch Street, Little Rock, AR with Bishop Vernon Kennebrew officiating. Interment will be at Selma Baptist Church Cemetery, Selma, AR.
